Why Eyrx Exists: Building a Performance Brand for Young Athletes

Eyrx started with something we kept seeing in youth sports.

Young athletes were training hard, competing seriously and showing up day after day, but the apparel available to them often felt like an afterthought.

There were plenty of options for adults. There were plenty of famous athletes and professional teams represented by performance brands.

But when we looked specifically at young athletes, especially the girls I was coaching, the choices felt much thinner.

That raised a simple question:

Why shouldn’t young athletes have a performance brand built around them from the beginning?

The idea started on the sidelines

Coaching youth sports gave me a close-up view of how young athletes actually use their gear.

They do not put on performance apparel for one carefully controlled hour. They wear it to school. They run at recess. They head directly into practice. They sit on the sideline, warm up, compete, climb into the car and sometimes keep wearing the same gear long after the game ends.

I also saw how limited the choices could feel, particularly for girls who wanted apparel that looked good, moved well and actually functioned like performance gear.

That was the gap.

Not simply another pair of shorts.

A performance brand that began with the young athlete.

Youth athletes should not be an afterthought

Children are not simply smaller adults.

Their proportions are different. Their schedules are different. The way they move through a day is different.

Performance apparel should take those differences seriously.

That means thinking about waistband fit, leg opening, pocket placement, coverage, stretch and fabric feel from the perspective of the athlete who will actually wear the product.

It also means recognizing that a young athlete may need one pair of shorts to work across school, recess, practice and play.

That whole-day reality is why youth athletic shorts need to work beyond practice .

Girls helped make the problem impossible to ignore

Girls are athletes.

That should be obvious, but the performance apparel available to young girls does not always reflect the same level of attention given to adult athletes or even to boys’ sportswear.

We did not want the answer to be taking a boys’ product, changing the color and calling it a girls’ short.

The girls’ CoreFlex short went through its own development process, with its fit, proportions, coverage and construction considered specifically for the athlete wearing it.

The built-in inner short, functional pockets and overall silhouette are part of that approach.

Girls also deserve meaningful choices in how their athletic apparel fits, which is why we believe there is no single correct answer to how long girls’ athletic shorts should be .

The product had to solve real problems

Once we decided to build for young athletes, the feature list could not be arbitrary.

Four-way stretch matters because athletes sprint, squat, climb and change direction.

Functional pockets matter because young athletes carry things and those pockets still need to work while they move.

Breathable, moisture-managing fabric matters because practice can follow a full school day.

UPF 50+ matters during outdoor practices, camps and tournament weekends.

Odor resistance matters because sports gear inevitably spends time in backpacks, gym bags and car seats.

The point was never to create the longest specification list.

It was to create features that earned their place in the life of a young athlete.

You can see that philosophy in our guide to the features that matter most in youth athletic shorts .

But Eyrx was never only about the product

The more time you spend around youth sports, the more obvious it becomes that the game is only part of what is happening.

Young athletes are learning how to compete. How to practice. How to listen. How to lose. How to improve. How to miss and try again.

Those lessons happen long before the trophy photograph.

That is why Eyrx is built around more than the highlight.

We care about the reps, the practices, the setbacks and the next attempts that build the athlete along the way.

That worldview is at the heart of why young athletes deserve a story of their own .

Built from the ground up for young athletes

That phrase is more than a description of how we design apparel.

It is the reason Eyrx exists.

Start with the young athlete.

Understand how they move.

Pay attention to what they need.

Build the product around them.

And create a brand that recognizes the work they are doing while they become the athletes they are capable of being.

That is what we are building.

That is Eyrx.
